2016 Hunters & Frankau Summer Cigar Party

Hunters & Frankau held its 2016 Summer Cigar Party in the Garden Lounge of the Corinthia Hotel, London on 14th of June.

The H&F Summer Cigar Party is now nine years old, following its inauguration in 2007 (days after the smoking ban came in to effect), and at heart it remains a celebration of al fresco smoking in the UK.

Although there was no party in 2014 (for various reasons), and they haven’t always been held strictly in the summer months, as the years have passed the event has grown in size and reputation to become a mainstay within many UK cigar smokers’ diaries. It is now a cornerstone of the UK cigar scene and an evening not to be missed for people within the industry, cigar aficionados or people that just enjoy a good cigar and a good party.

The evening, which remarkably remained dry through out, saw the UK launch of two very special cigars that had been flown in from Cuba just days before specifically for this party. They are scheduled for general release later in the year.

The cigars were;

The Montecristo Aniversario 80 – 6 ½” (165mm) x 55 ring gaugeMontecristo - Vitola especial 80 Aniversario (14)

Montecristo, the World’s most popular handmade premium cigar, was founded in 1935, so last year was its 80th anniversary and this cigar has been produced to mark the occasion. However, the brand has been available in the UK since 1936, making 2016 the 80th anniversary of the UK’s relationship with the brand. This evening is the first time that the finished product has been presented outside Cuba in its commemorative box.

The Juan LopJuan Lopez Seleccion Superba (3)ez Selección Superba (2016 UK Regional Edition) – 5 7/8” (150mm) x 54 ring gauge.

Just 6,000 numbered boxes of ten cigars have been made and they are exclusively available in the UK. Although thoroughly modern in shape (replicating the Montecristo Open Eagle and Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan), they also have several features that hark back to earlier times. For instance the cigar band and the Tapaclava (the label covering the nail that secures the lid) are both recreations of much earlier examples.

The evening of firsts did not  end there –  Guests were also among the first in the UK to try Havana Club’s newest release, the Limited Edition 2016 Tributo rum. This new concept from Havana Club also received its UK launch on the night.

Laurent Perrier Vintage 2006 (from magnums) was served though out the evening together with two cocktails created especially for the evening and a selection of canapés.

A live band, Son Yambu, were on hand to lend a distinctly Latin feel to what has become a very British tradition – The Hunters & Frankau Summer Cigar Party.
