Even if this is accurate, the problem we have in the UK is the tax. For example, the cost of a cab of BBF in the UK, from an online retailer, is around £315 or £12.60 per stick. A cab from outside the EU comes in at £159 or £6.36. Thats nearly half price!

In the current economic climate I would be very tempted to go outside the UK, even if it is slightly less quality (and i believe this is very subjective) for the pure reason that i wish to persue my interests in cigars without it crippling my finances.
Cigars are all about enjoyment and the current taxation is simply making this extremely pleasurable hobby virtually unfeasible for many.
I buy singles from UK retailers, rarely boxes, as overseas purchases are better for quantities, because of the taxes.
As for any perceived quality differences, believe what you want, but I have travelled to Cuba for 10+ years and elsewhere buying cigars. I buy many cigars from H&F, just not on the English mainland....

i seem to haave opened a nest of vipers here. didn't mean to offend. I am far from well off. Every penny counts in our house but the point i am trying to get across is i have been smoking Cuban a long time and i am concerned to see fewer and fewer shops stock Cuban's and the shops that still do are reducing there range. With the goverment doing there best to prevent us from making our own choices i wouldnt be suprised to see cigars outlawed in a few years (well unless you are an m.p. of course. I too have been visiting Cuba for well over a decade and i can confirm that the u.k. do receive the best quality cigars. That is not to say that some other countries receive cigars as good. for example all the cigars ive smoked from switzerland have been exellent. But i have stopped buying cigars from spain as the quality has dropped so much over the years.(This is only my opinion). I agree our tax in the u.k. on cuban cigars is outrageous. When i can buy a cohiba esplendo in Cuba for £7 yet in the u.k. i have to pay £25 - £30 i truly beleive our government have been supporting the u.s blockade by making the cigars almost unaccesable to the common man. I am currently battling the major supermarkets to stock more Cuban cigars as Sainsbury's have just pulled the plug on there range due to (lack of space). So if you can every now and then go to your local supplier and give em some support.

EMS all the way for me....proportion of "duds" far far lower with EMS than stogies bought from abroad (and I've bought a few)...in my experience. Also the "condition" always seems to be better .....but thats only my opinion...each to their own

I also have no intention to offend anyone and of course I'm for supporting the
local suppliers also. With that said, I do believe when you say that the cuban
workers in the factories confirmed that they strive for the EMS label on every
box sold in the UK. I've been to Cuba many times too and I have also asked the
workers in the factories if in France, we get HQ cigars for the french market
and they have all confirmed that in France, we only get the best. We all know
that the cigar roller does not know the brand he is rolling aside from the
vitola size but even less for what market.
They also don't know what cigars will get the EMS stamp since the stamp is only
put on the box once it has cleared bond in the UK and not before leaving Cuba.
As for Spain, you are right, there's more chances of getting a bad stick then in
the UK,
but then again, they are the biggest importers of Habanos in the world and what
they don't keep or refuse will be sold to the grey market.
What I'm saying is that every offical HSA importer has the same contract &
guarantee, it's just called differently in each country. It's all a matter of
staying realistic and having confidence in your suppliers to bring you the best
experience possible in cigar smoking.

I understood that the term EMS in itself may describe any Cuban that is not Double-Claro (AMS). Is it therefore possible that the Havana Cigar workers refer to the quality of EMS being any cigar distributed within the European Market? Regards, David.
I agree that the EMS stamp is a guarantee. However, I live 90 miles from Cuba, have to have my sticks sent from UK sources and would like to know of any superior Swiss on line retailers anyone has had personal experience with.
